Coalition of Immokalee Workers

WHO WE ARE

1995 General Strike
Immokalee, Florida

The CIW is today spear-heading the Taco Bell boycott. But before we launched the national boycott in April of 2001, we had been organizing locally for many years in an effort to modernize labor relations in Florida's fields, improve wages and working conditions for our members, and eliminate modern-day slavery.

To learn more about the history of the Coalition, you can go to the CIW site where you'll find all the non-Taco Bell info on the Coalition from 1995 to 2001, including past CIW campaigns, Press Archives, Photo Galleries, and more!

... to some of the most important sites for social justice on the internet:
(in no particular order, and with more to come from time to time...)

Feed the Taco Bell dog until he explodes -- ok, this one isn't so important, but it is kind of fun...
Rage Against the Machine -- perhaps the premier political music group of our age
Ozomatli -- though these guys are pretty good themselves...
United for a Fair Economy -- a great site for statistics and analysis on the growing income gap
Student/Farmworker Alliance -- an incredibly active, creative student movement for justice with a network of young people in high schools and universities from Florida to California
Kensington Welfare Rights Union -- a leader of the movement of the poor for the poor, spearheading the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign
PCUN, UFW, FLOC -- Farmworker organizations fighting hard for economic and social rights in Oregon, California, and Ohio
No Logo -- A site inspired by the book by Naomi Klein that is a great resource for political activism and analysis
United Students Against Sweatshops -- You've heard of the anti-sweatshop movement, maybe? USAS helped make "sweatshops" a household term...

Indymedia -- The ONLY media source you'll ever need

Human Rights Tech -- Are you a community organization in need of technical support? Click on the link and all your tech questions will be answered...
Mexico Solidarity Network -- A great boycott ally in the Chicago area, and an even better resource for news and analysis on the fight for human and economic rights in Mexico
Campaign for Labor Rights -- Speaking of great allies, the CLR has a powerful network of activists across the country that mobilize to fight sweatshop conditions from the factories of Asia to the fields of Florida
Landless Peasants Movement (Brazil) -- Only the most impressive, most powerful political movement in the world today (site in Portugese, but you can click on the English link for a better idea...)
Tampa Bay Action Group -- TBAG is one of the most active progressive/community organizations in Florida (and the CIW is an honorary member..)
Industrial Workers of the World -- The IWW... 'nuff said
Prebyterian Church, USA - boycott site -- PCUSA has really put its weight behind its endorsement of the boycott, and you can see that here at their site
Labor Council for Latin American Advancement -- a national Latino trade union association representing 1.4 million Latino working men and women in 43 international unions in 64 chapters in 17 states and Puerto Rico -- and they endorsed the boycott!
Adbusters -- Culture jamming headquarters, the place to find logos bent backwards against their corporate owners
Global Exchange -- a human rights organization dedicated
to promoting environmental, political, and social justice around the world. ...
Coalicion de Derechos Humanos/Alianza Indigena Sin Fronteras -- a human rights organization truly on the front lines, fighting for immigrant rights and against growing anti-immigrant violence, including racist border vigilantes, in the Southwest.
