BELL TRUTH TOUR -- DAY TWO

After another long day on the road -- and despite
one of our buses getting a flat tire (again...) -- we arrived
at the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church in Louisville before
dark.
|

Which meant there was time to relax before
tomorrow's events, including a spontaneous serenata from
some of the CIW's resident musicians...
|

... while other members worked on the soundtrack
for our events tomorrow as well as our radio station back home.
|

There was some hard work to do, too, as other
members showed off their carpentry skills building the stage and
the tomato bucket pyramid.
|

The evening ended with a gathering to go over
last minute details for tomorrow's action...
|

... and cheers in antipation of the next day's
march to Yum Brand's headquarters.
|

The long road trip gave workers coming from
Immokalee a chance to reflect. Antonio Martinez (left), a CIW
member who escaped from a slavery operation that was later brought
to justice through the CIW's anti-slavery campaign, kept a journal
of his thoughts on the first two day's events.
|
He shared his journal for this report. Here
is an excerpt:
"Our visit to the University of Florida
in Gainesville left me very pleased because the students there
gave us so much energy and support. The action there reminded
us that we are not alone, as the CIW. But we are part of a bigger
movement. This morning, we were even happier when we read an article
that said that the student party that supports us won the student
government elections that day. And so we are sure that it won't
be long before Taco Bell is no longer on that campus. So I believe
that we today have gained that much more ground on Taco Bell.
And I know that we will continue to be a stone in their shoe until
we are face to face at the table in negotiations." 2-26-04
