Coalition of Immokalee Workers

HIS EMINENCE
CARDINAL FRANCIS EUGENE GEORGE, O.M.I.
ARCHBISHOP OF CHICAGO

Mr. James Skinner, CEO
McDonald’s Corporation
2111 McDonald’s Drive
Oak Brook, IL 60523

Dear Mr. Skinner,

I have recently been informed that members of the , whose representatives have met with McDonald’ss executives on several occasions in the past, will be gathering today in front of your corporate offices. As I am sure you are aware, the Coalition represents farm workers in south Florida whose skills and labor are integral to the agriculture that produces the foods used by McDonald’s restaurants. Many of these workers and their families live in conditions that are below or barely above poverty level, and a corporation like McDonald’s, with its vast impact on the domestic and international economy, possesses the ability to help them improve their lives.

The McDonald’s Corporation has recently helped coffee industry workers through its commitments to them. In a similar way, I ask that McDonald’s continue its meeting with the , and make a sincere effort to enter into agreements that will both improve the lives of its members and enable McDonald’s to continue offering high quality food in its restaurants. If Taco Bell and its parent company were able to do this, certainly a widely respected company like McDonald’s can follow suit.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. May God bless you and those you love.

Sincerely,

Francis Cardinal George, OMI
Archbishop of Chicago
