Writing, “As I am sure you are aware, the Coalition represents farm workers in south Florida whose skills and labor are integral to the agriculture that produces the foods used by McDonald’s restaurants. Many of these workers and their families live in conditions that are below or barely above poverty level, and a corporation like McDonald’s, with its vast impact on the domestic and international economy,possesses the ability to help them improve their lives,” Cardinal Francis Eugene George (right) urged McDonald’s to work with the CIW to address the sub-poverty wages and unacceptable working conditions in the fields where McDonald’s tomatoes are picked.
