San Francisco hunger striker tour shuts down Taco Bell - Day one video
(5 MB Quicktime), Day two video (1.8 MB Quicktime)

San Francisco received the hunger strikers on the Northern California tour in grand style, putting together a rally so broad-based and powerful that they actually shut down the Taco Bell restaurant!

A dark and quiet Taco Bell greeted the protesters, where the manager must have decided that it was better to lose business than than face the truth of farmworker exploitation and the wrath of consumers who are demanding fair food now.

The day started out at San Francisco State University (not far from the University of San Francisco, where the students booted their Taoc Bell restaurant last year!), where the hunger strikers and allies met with students at the Cesar Chavez Student Center. The murals above the entrance to the center were an appropriate reflection of the spirit of the hunger strike and the fight to end sweatshops in the fields.

Following the meeting, the CIW crew gathered with students who joined them on the bus to the San Francisco protest. Students wore red headbands in solidarity with the hunger strikers.

Then it was on to the protest, a march that combined support for the hunger strike with opposition to the war and to the FTAA...

... a global justice march that brought people together in hope and struggle for another world, one not defined by the insatiable drive for corporate profits.

And so the marchers continued from their protest outside a dark and locked Taco Bell...

... to a final rally on the steps of the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange.
