INFO FOR STATE-WIDE & NATIONAL PARTICIPANTS

Description

Allies from around the state and throughout the country are making plans to join the CIW for this important 2-day mobilization in Miami.  Please consider joining or organizing a caravan from your area or fundraising to send a representative from your group/organization.  We need strong numbers and wide representation of our allies in order to send a powerful message to Burger King!


Caravans & Delegations

Florida Allies:

National Allies:
There are many communities throughout the country that are mobilizing to send individual representatives or delegations to the Burger King action.  If you are interested in sending a representative from your group/organization, joining a delegation, or collaborating with others in your region, you can find a list of participating cities by clicking here. Lodging & Registration

We are working together with Miami-area congregations to line up free lodging for out-of-town allies.  Accommodations are modest (mostly floor space), but safe.  Lodging is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, November 29th – December 1st.  To register for housing, please click here.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel, we suggest that you book a room in downtown Miami, near the march start site and Saturday's events. The website www.sidestep.com is a great place to compare prices and amenities. Two centrally-located budget hotels are:

Meals

Lunch will be provided to all registered participants on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st.  Dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday morning will also be provided, on a limited basis, to out-of-town participants who are staying at the free lodging sites and are able to make financial contributions towards the meals.

What to Bring

For mobilization:
* Sleeping bag
* Camping pillow
* Camping pad
* Earplugs
* Towel
* Toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc.)
* Weather-appropriate clothing
* Literature to share at conference
* Extra business cards
* Camera
* Spanish/English dictionary

For March:
* Comfortable walking shoes
* An extra pair of socks
* Water bottle
* Hat/cap/sunglasses
* Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
* Sunscreen
* Signs, banners or artwork that is visible to passing cars and pedestrians
* Drums, musical instruments and/or noisemakers


Weather
Late November/early December is typically a beautiful time of year in South Florida!  The hurricane season ends and humidity drops.  The average high is 78 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 70.  Days are typically warm and sunny, and nights are pleasantly cool.
